Take a gander!!
The smallest thing, in the eyes of a child is amazing. The pure amazement and joy over something so humdrum, is one of the best moments of parenting. The "Wow!", the smiles, the "Look Mummy! Come and see!" always makes me smile.
Doesn't matter how often we have ducks or geese on the front garden, it's always the same response. They never tire of seeing them, waddling up to the front lawn. The biggest smiles appear, the screams of happiness start and I'm being dragged away from whatever I'm doing, to look out the kitchen window.
This happened this morning but I worked it, to my advantage. Today is a nursery day and getting them out of bed is always a joy (any other day they are up at 0630, but a nursery day I have to drag them out of bed!).
I went in their room, whipped the duvets off and told them to get up. No movement. Nothing.
I opened the blinds and saw two geese sat on the path outside the house. "Oh look, the geese are outside". Well, before I'd even finished my sentence, they both jumped up and looked! Success! They were up. "Get dressed and we can feed them, before we leave". I've never know them get dressed so fast!! Socks on, no problem!! They even let me brush thier hair, with no tears!! Mummy was winning this morning, thanks to Mr and Mrs Goose!!

They feed the ducks and geese all the time. At least 4 days a week, as the canal always has some wildlife, swimming about. Yet, they never get bored. It's always an amazing and joyful experience. There's no "Oh really, again" or "no I don't want to, it's boring". It's always snapping my hand of for the food and then running off and laughing with every bit they throw.
Will they get bored of the ducks, at some point? Probably, but until then, I will enjoy every laugh and shocked expression, I can and treasure every memory. Until, of course, they are moody teenegaers and won't talk to me, let alone laugh at ducks with me!!!
