We're all going on a Summer Holiday!!
Weather wise we chose the wost time in June, to go away. Did that stop us? No. Did we still wonder round Legoland and Chessington, soaked to the bone? Yes. Did we care? Definitely no!!!
All credit to the two parks, they didn't close rides when the rain started falling. I figured they would and we'd be left wondering round in the rain, fighting people for shelter but nope! We were typically British and kept calm and carried on!! The kids didn't moan once and just ran about from ride to ride, laughing at getting wet bums, when they sat down!
We did so many many rides and shows and still didn't cover everything, even though we had a day and half in each park! Longest we queued for anything was about 20mins, in Legoland for the Dragon Rollorcoster. Unfortunately only Number 1 could get on this one, so I was left to entertain a distrought Number 2 and feed the baby! We ended up in a park in Pirate Bay, where she promptly climbed to the highest point and then couldn't desend. Leaving me to abandon the baby in the pram, by a tree and convince an 11 year old lad, to climb up and rescue her, as I couldn't get up there!!! She finally came down, a bit sheepish and told me, it was a bit high for her and she should stay on the little pirate ship... Something I'd told her before she started climbing on the larger part!! Mummy knows best kid, maybe listen occasionally!!!
First stop was Chessington World of Adventures. We went straight to the new Room On A Brook ride, or the Witch Ride, as the kids call it. Well, we may have not bothered... They cried all the way round, refused to do the interactive activities and clung to me and Hubby, for dear life!! Last year, when we had visited, they cried on the Gruffalo Ride and I figured, we were in for a few days of tears!!! Absolutely useless, the pair of them! They'd spent the 4 days previous, telling me how they wouldn't cry because they are big girls now... No such luck, aye!!!
Luckily that was the only ride that produced tears. The Gruffalo River Ride, was success with everyone. Even the baby loved that one and laughed and smiled, all the way round!
The rain was pretty heavy, that day but we plodded on and smashed out a few rides, while others were hiding from the showers!
Our favourite ride was the Zufari Experience. Again, Number 2 was too small, so just me and number one, ventured off for this one.
It's brilliant. We saw flamingos, giraffes and zebras, from our humpy safari bus. Number one loved it and I had to keep telling her to sit down, as she was desperate to see the animals! She loudly proclaimed many times, that this was her favourite one!
We got a bit delayed on the ride, due to a Rhino blocking the track, which Number 1 found hilarious and had to run immediately to Daddy, to tell him when the ride was finished!!
We spent the night in the Tiger themed Room, at the Safari Hotel. Pictures of Tigers everywhere and the toilet roars, when you flush it! We must have spent a good hour, sat in thr bathroom, just flushing the loo... Sorry environment!!
We also had treasure to find in the room, by counting different things, to gain the code. Pop badges always go down well with the girls and we have quite the collectio now. We also managed to collect and swop, a few this trip.
I love this hotel, as the view is fantastic. Looking out our window, we could see Zebras, Ostriches and a whole host of other animals. It's such a lovely sight to wake up to!
We spent the evening swimming in the splash pool and watching the animals, while Mummy and Daddy, relaxed with a pint. It was all going well, I even felt slightly relaxed! But the baby changed all that, by deciding to Poo-nami, in the bar area and a major clean up, was required!
Chessington Safari Hotel is worth a visit, even just for the view of the animals. The girls loved sitting in the window and telling me about the flamingo, just outside the window.... Spoiler alert, it was a Heron!!
Legoland is my happy place. I love Lego and have to be dragged out the shops, like a toddler because I want everything!! If I won the lottery the first room I'd build in my mansion, would be a lego room, with all the sets I currently dream of having, because I cant afford them! My house is full of minifigures, brickheadz, Harry Potter and Star Wars sets and Lego Architecture skylines and landmarks! I'm obsessed with the stuff (much to the dismay of the Husband and the bank...!) I even have a Lego tattoo. I could happily live my days out, in Legoland just walking round the Mini land, in awe.
Legoland is brilliant for littler children, as the park is aimed at younger kids (and kid like adults!!) Number 2 could get on most rides there, unlike Chessington, where the minimum on a few rides is 1m. The shows are also fantastic, especially Pirate Stunt Show. We have spent the evenings since, playing Pirate show, where they make us sit down, loudly shout "Boys and Girls. Ladies and Gentlemen, Welcome to Pirate show" and then run up and down the hallway, hitting each other with Lego foam pirate swords!!!
Our favourites include the Driving school, where Kids can gain their driving licence after 'driving' Lego cars and the Atlantis Submarine ride. The Submarine ride is by far, the best ride I've ever been on. Watching the fish, whilst inside a Lego submarine is unbelievable. Even the baby enjoyed that one!
The new Monster Party House ride is also great, but quite hit and miss. Its shuts down quite regularly but when it's working, its great. Could be a bit scary for little ones but mine both enjoyed 'going upside down'. While at Legoland, we stayed in the Legoland Hotel. We chose a Pirate room, with a view of the theme park and what a treat that was!!! Beautifully decorated in a Pirate Theme with Lego structures on the walls and scattered throughout the room. Separate kids area with activities and a box of Lego, to keep them entertained. We had treasure to find in the room too and they were both chuffed with their Star Wars Lego treasure. We spent the evening swimming in the splash pool, dancing and meeting Lego Characters (well the kids did, we sat in the bar and watched!) (That's a lie, I had my photo taken with every Lego character, I saw!)
Legoland Hotel is worth every penny. Its fantastic for kids, and adults, and has everything you'd need. Round every corner is a Lego structure, or a Lego playpit, which fills everyone with delight!! You get park entry included in the hotel, but with our Merlin Passes, we didn't need it. We also go a free two day digipass, which meant we got all our ride photos. Only let down with that is that Legoland doesn't have cameras on many of its rides, so you only walk away with 3 or 4 photos, depending on how many rides you get on. But it's still good and we have some fab photos of Number 1, laughing her head off on the rollorcoster!!
So, that was our summer holiday, part one. We are theme parked out now and everyone is shattered!!
The Merlin Annual Pass, made our holiday possible. No way could we have afforded two amazing hotel stays, 3 days of park entry, food and gifts, if it wasn't for the passes. I would recommend these passes to anyone. They are fantastic value for money. Entry to so many attractions round the UK and discounts on the themed hotels, food and gift shops.
We've had them 6 months and they have paid for themselves, twice over. We will be using them again, when we go to Blackpool, next week and I'm sure we will get at least one more visit to Alton Towers in, before the schools break up. These passes make days outs/weekends away much easier. No worrying about paying park entry or worrying about spends. Even drink refills, are only 75p!! Definitely made family days out much much easier.
A good time was definitely had by all, but now the fun begins. I have two days to wash and dry everything, before we head to Blackpool... Wish me luck!!!
