Roar little Lionesses π¦π¦π¦
Number 1 has enjoyed football for a few months now, much to my delight. She likes to watch and play, and she's got quite the little kick on her. We've practiced basic skills in the garden and she has managed to hit Number 2, in the face, a good number of times!
Number 2 enjoys it too but she's still learning to kick it, without falling over (see attached gif!) They love to go out in the garden and play. And I love going and playing with them!
I played football as a kid. Nothing special, school teams, trials for a few local teams and a COE trail programme. I really enjoyed football and spent any hours not at school, playing at home against, the lads on my road. Women's football wasn't as promoted, as it is now. Other than the established PL teams, there were no smaller teams, locally for me to join. I couldn't join the boys teams and the 'ladies' teams that were around, were not teams for a 14/15 year old, to play in. I love that my kids now want to play football with Mummy. Daddy's rubbish, so it's finally something for me and my girls, to do. We can watch the games together and play together and wear our shirts together. Nothing better than dribbling the ball round the garden, with them chasing me and then smashing one top bins, to show them who's boss... What? They have to learn!!!
The Lionesses in the WC, have definitely done wonders for Ladies Football. I think the effect the England team, have had on the youngsters, has been amazing. They are such good role models and I think they should hold their heads high, when they return home. They have become superstars, to a whole new generation of footballers and encouraged more girls to get involved. They have played some difficult games (Cameroon) and they played perfectly and didn't rise to the tactics and behaviour, of their opponents. They have showed girls, and boys, that you don't need to hit the ground under any sort of contact (America, I'm looking at you!). I've really been impressed with the whole team and their skills, their behaviour and the respect, they have shown for the game. I've loved their winning attitude and the stamp, they have put on the game. My two have enjoyed watching the games and have even asked to go to one! I put the Copa AmΓ©rica highlights on the other night and Number 1 asked if this was the girls or the boys. When I replied the boys, she asked if the girls were on after. I was proud, until I put Wimbledon on and she asked if it was the girls of boys and why the goal different!!
Only thing that's a problem at the moment, is that Number 2 seems to have decided to follow Daddy's team (Aston Villa), and quite often is found, running round the garden shouting 'Super Jack'. Number 1, however, has chosen the right path and has already asked me for a new Derby shirt, with 'Super Frank' on the back (Im struggling to tell her, that Frank has left us). she's been shouting 'Super Waggy' for a few days now, which I'm happy with. Although, it does occasionally come out as 'Super Willy!! I hope Waghorn doesn't mind and he's just happy to have a little fan!
Im trying to claw Number 2, away from the dark side but she's not having it. Give it a few months and hopefully, they will both be singing 'Super Waggy' in their new Derby shirts.
